From inside the game
Open Scanlings, tap your player name at the top of the screen to open the account menu, and choose Delete my player. You will be asked to confirm, and then it is done — there is no waiting period and nothing to email.
This is the fastest route and it is the same operation described below, run by you rather than by us.
By writing to us
If you no longer have the app installed, or you cannot get into your account, write to hello@scanlings.app and ask for your account to be deleted. Tell us the player name you used, so we can find it.
We will need to be reasonably sure the request comes from the person who owns the account before we run it, because an unverified deletion request is a way to erase somebody else's collection.
What is deleted
Every barcode you have scanned, your whole collection, your team, your battle history, your tower climbs, your sessions on every device, and the link between your player and your Google sign-in. Your sign-in is released rather than blocked: you can sign in again afterwards and start a new player from nothing.
What stays, and why
The record that a barcode was discovered for the first time stays. Being first to find something is a fact about the world's catalogue rather than a fact about you, and removing it would rewrite what every other player has already seen — creatures would appear undiscovered when they are not.
Your row on the leaderboards stays too, marked with a tombstone and holding the totals you had reached. It stops growing at that moment, so other players pass it over time. It is there so the world's numbers still add up and nobody else inherits credit they did not earn.
You choose what that row is called. Keep your name on it, or make it private — in which case a barcode is shown in place of your name. Both keep the row, the rank and the numbers exactly as they are; only the label differs. You are asked at the moment you delete, and only you can answer it.
It cannot be undone, and the name is spent
There is no way back. A deleted player cannot be restored, re-linked to an account, or given to anyone else — not by you, not by another player, and not by us. Moving to a new phone or importing your collection somewhere else are different things and stay available while your player is alive; deletion is the one action that is final.
The name goes with it. Once a player is deleted, that name can never be used again by anybody, including you. Please be sure before you confirm.
The rest of it
What is stored in the first place, and why, is on the privacy page. If you are in the EU or UK, deletion is a right rather than a feature, and the contact address above is where to exercise it.
